Boat in the storm

The winds blew steady on the blue seas,
A hint of grey lined the skies due east.
With pensive eyes he scanned the horizon,
As the moist air strode past his boat.

A storm was coming, he knew it well,
Time was short for his small sail,
Choices lay ahead with sacrifices weighed,
His crew awaited for what he said.

The clouds raced fast across the blue pane,
The white tinged waves besieged the men,
The swells grew high, rocked the boat,
The storm was near, he grabbed his coat.

"Tie down all and go down below.
Ready the buckets, Ready the pump,
We will ride the beast and see the sun,
Storms shall come and storms will pass".

The sky blackened, lightning shone,
Towering waves thrashed their boat,
The crew held tight to shreds of hope,
Their captain will make them float.

His hands clenched, knuckles white,
In the darkness none could see his fright,
He was master, he was the king,
Yet there was none to show him the light.

At the end of night the storm did pass,
The sun bathed the soaked up planks,
Their boat was stripped to its logs,
They all cried, and gave their thanks.

The shore was near, they could see,
They rushed all to the captain's bridge,
Where the dead man lay, clutching the wheel,
As he steered them through the siege.
