The Prologue
In a land not so far,
Lived a boy with dark eyes.
Dark hair and skin had he,
Like any dark boy in the land..
But the dark eyes shone
Different from the other dark boys,
For with a smiling face,
And a dab of dazzle he would say :
“The stars will bow, the sun will hide,
Let it be known far and wide,
I am the one whom the nobles will carry,
For it is the princess whom I shall marry.”
Dark days they have seen too much,
Eyes embracing the darkness long,
Such bright dazzle would hurt their eyes.
To the foolish boy they would whisper:
“The stars will laugh, the sun will burn,
Impossible things you should not yearn.
The farmers plough suits you best,
You have to bear the dark man’s crest”.
Unfazed our little hero stands,
Nothing can make his spirits damp.
Alone he may be, but afraid not,
With dazzling dark eyes he answers back:
“The stars do know, the sun does fear,
The dragon’s lair I shall tear,
The farmers fate I shall never bear,
I will scrub my fate till I am fair”.
Relatives he had none, friends only few,
It is difficult to stand a loud mouthed fool.
Only two souls could he trust,
Sally and the boy with fair cheeks.
None could reason why they followed,
Our dark eyed Quixotic hero,
But may be they saw what others dared not,
The bright dazzle beneath the dark eyes.
Men are but inherent cowards,
Afraid and cowered of change,
Too used to what they have become,
To the comfort of static misery.
Sally was another dark ugly girl,
Born to a farmer and his wife,
Drowned in the ways of grief and strife,
Till she met the shinning dark eyes.
The first time she saw a different light,
Prettier than the stars, brighter than the sun,
The first time “Ugly Sally” heard just “Sally”,
Our young hero had won a heart.
But alas, dumb as he was, he couldn’t see,
The jealous little eyes that devoured him,
As he narrated the tales of eternal beauty
Of the famed princess, whom he will marry.
She knew not another who could dream,
Such fantastic ethereal dreams,
And a million times she had dreamt,
If only she could be a fair princess.
All day and night she would hear,
The tales of one who knows no fear,
How he will slay the mighty kings,
Riding with the princess on dragon wings.
And the second one was mysterious still,
The boy with fair, handsome skin,
The blue eyed lad who often came,
To Artes and Sally, to play with them.
His name not known, nor his home,
May be he was from a village not known,
For though he was fair with curly hair,
His clothes were old and badly shorn.
But Tate was a nice young lad,
A laid back guy, liked to relax,
Smiling on the velvet grass,
As Artes weaved his magical tales.
They played along in the velvet plains,
Bonds grew strong as tides swept in,
And without notice they grew up big,
But the dreams they had, were burning still.
Then one day, he came; Artes was shocked,
For there was a messenger from Avalot,
"Slay the dragon", the King had said,
"And you shall marry the princess!"
The Boy jumped up, high with joy,
His chance had come to live his tales,
All those days of vacant dreams
Shall finally come to light.
"Good bye to all my brethren dear,
I shall slay the beast, have no fear,
The stars will wilt, the sun will bow,
The time to charge has come about now".
With these words and a final kiss,
On little Sally's teary cheek,
Rode our hero, Avalot bound,
With dreams of princess in his eyes.
