Shells of old music resonate
Within the four walls of this distant land,
Drowning the din of the everlasting silence.
At its end, silence returns with force, shameless, naked,
Causing a frantic scramble to search a new old song,
The anchor cast to steady the ship
In the midst of the tide of silence.
The currents are strong tonight,
Dragging the anchor along the river bed,
Dredging up old fine silt long forgotten.
As the boat spins, flashes of changing scenery pass by,
Leaving behind a turbulent wake in the waves of silence,
Echoes of long distant past come hauntingly,
And I greet them with a benign smile,
A creased forehead. a receding hairline, and embattled eyes,
Unchanging, piercing and still bright.
Within the four walls of this distant land,
Drowning the din of the everlasting silence.
At its end, silence returns with force, shameless, naked,
Causing a frantic scramble to search a new old song,
The anchor cast to steady the ship
In the midst of the tide of silence.
The currents are strong tonight,
Dragging the anchor along the river bed,
Dredging up old fine silt long forgotten.
As the boat spins, flashes of changing scenery pass by,
Leaving behind a turbulent wake in the waves of silence,
Echoes of long distant past come hauntingly,
And I greet them with a benign smile,
A creased forehead. a receding hairline, and embattled eyes,
Unchanging, piercing and still bright.
