There are some, immersed in shallow ponds of happiness,
As the water evaporates, they hop to another,
Forever fleeting, never anchored, one shore to another.
There are some, immersed in deep depths of depression,
Sunk in the darkest depths where any light of joy emitted
Is absorbed by the pitch black viscous fluids enshrouding them.
Both suffer undoubted spurts of sadness and happiness,
The happy hoppers feels sad, the brief desert periods,
The sad thinkers feels joy at the brief touch of an illusory oasis.
But, both their persistent emotions are nothing but a mirage,
A forced immersion in unreality.
I am happy as I cannot be sad,
I am sad, as I cannot be happy,
Both believe in it equally,
The flawed escapists.
The sunken mariners busy being sad,
Miss the glimmer of the life hidden all around,
The joyous truants, too busy seeking happiness,
Fail to notice that the pond isn't really dry,
The vast ocean of unbounded hidden joy.
And yet,
They drown in their shallow depths of emotions,
Ever so hollow, ever so heavy, never trying to float,
And the clock ticks by,
the sun keeps rising,
Nebulae keep shinning.
