A Stranger came Knockin

A stranger came knocking on her front little door,

A stranger came knocking, as she slept on the floor.

With the dolls and the toys that was part of her share,

With the hopes and the smiles that she would sell in the fare.

In her dream she heard a sound on her door,

A knock and a two, she had heard for sure.

With sleepy red eyes, and blackish red cheek,

Her mind opened wide to what her eyes did seek.

Who could that be in the middle of the night?

Who could that be in the cold dead night?

The snow rained grey on the black covered land,

The winds blew hell, as a storm in the sand.

A stranger came knocking on her front little door,

Could it be the prince from far offshore?

Could it be the fairy of the distant land?

Could it be the angels who had found her sad?

Tears of frost did run down her cheek,

Came to her mind a thought she did seek..

A long lost hope of the old summer days,

The grass and the rose and the sunset haze.

When she ran through the fields under watchful eyes,

When she laughed her hearts, and smiled those eyes.

When she had a piece of loaf, every Sunday eve,

When she had a lap to rest, and a place to live.

Could it be the brothers she had lost in the war?

Could it be that friend she had searched so far?

Could it be the one, to melt her frozen tears?

Could it be the one who’ll slay her dark fears?

With small little steps, she moved to the door.

Her heart beat a rhyme she never heard before,

And shy of the door she stopped in her track,

And shy of the door, she stiffened her back.

But how could it be that the angels have known,

The prayers she had sent, had never been shown.

For long she had prayed to get back what is lost,

But all that she got was the ice and the frost.

What if its not the prince she had long since dreamt.

What if its not the fairy, not the friend she had whimmed.

What if her dreams did shatter in the frost?

What if the images she had made, were lost.

A strange dark fear, did grip her throat.

She was in a river and she longed for a boat.

She longed to row, to reach the other side,

And yet she was afraid to open the door wide.

A stranger cam knocking on her front little door,

The stranger had waited, and waited for sure.

But knocking did stop after a short while,

The stranger did leave in the frost without a smile.

Oh! What had she done, she gained her mind,

Who was the stranger? She came off the bind.

She flung the door wide with wild beating heart.

Nothing but two footprints did greet her part.

Tears of frost rolled down her cheek,

What did she fear, she tried to seek.

Was it the fear of the darkness dim?

Or her hopes so high all shattering grim?

Her heart felt sad for the stranger now gone.

He had come in the frost, in the darkness lone.

He might not be the prince she long since sought,

But he was indeed a soul who was longed and brought.

She did wait since then, on the cold dead floor,

For a stranger to come and knock on her door.

For a stranger to touch her desolate soul,

She hasn’t succeeded, but she stays on her goal.
